Bachelor’s Programs (B.Des & B.F.Tech)

Eligibility Criteria

Who can apply?
Any candidate who meets the specific age and educational qualifications for the intended program is eligible to apply.

1. Qualifying Age

• Candidates must be under 24 years of age as of August 1st in the year of admission.
• There is a relaxation of 5 years in the upper age limit for candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe/Person with Disability (PWD) categories.

2. Educational Qualifications

A. Bachelor of Design (B.Des) Programs
Includes Fashion Design, Leather Design, Accessory Design, Textile Design, Knitwear Design, and Fashion Communication.

• Candidates must have passed the 10+2 level examination from any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Education (e.g., CBSE, State Board New Delhi, Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi).
• Alternatively, candidates who have passed the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with at least five subjects, or equivalent qualifications from Public Schools/Boards/Universities in India or abroad recognized by the Association of Indian Universities, are also eligible.
• Those with the General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination at the Advanced (A) level or the International Baccalaureate (IB) are eligible as well.

B. Bachelor of Fashion Technology (B.F.Tech) Program

• Candidates must have passed the 10+2 examination with Physics and Mathematics from a recognized board as mentioned above.
• The same alternatives as listed under the B.Des program also apply here but must include Physics and Mathematics.

Master’s Programs (M.Des, M.F.M, and M.F.Tech)

Who can apply?
Candidates who meet the educational requirements for their chosen Master’s program can apply.

1. Qualifying Age

• There is no age limit for Master’s programs.

2. Educational Qualifications

A. Master of Design (M.Des)

• Requires an undergraduate degree in any discipline from an institution recognized by law in India, or a minimum three-year undergraduate diploma from NIFT/NID.
• Note: The M.Des program requires a basic understanding of design fundamentals, as the course assumes familiarity with basic skills and theories necessary for successful completion. It does not include introductory design skill development in its curriculum.

B. Master of Fashion Management (M.F.M)

• Candidates need an undergraduate degree in any discipline, or a three-year undergraduate diploma from NIFT/NID.

C. Master of Fashion Technology (M.F.Tech)

• Eligibility includes a B.F.Tech degree from NIFT or a B.E/B.Tech from any recognized institution.

How to Apply for NIFT: Application Process

For Domestic Candidates (Excluding Foreign National/NRI Category)

Application Fee Details

• Payment must be made through the online payment gateway on the admissions website.
• Non-Refundable Fee Structure:
  • For General/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/EWS categories: ₹3,000.
  • For SC/ST/PWD categories: ₹1,500.
• Candidates applying to both B.Des and B.FTech programs will incur the following costs:
  • General/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/EWS: ₹4,500 (₹3,000 + ₹1,500).
  • SC/ST/PWD: ₹2,250 (₹1,500 + ₹750).

Payment Method

• All fees must be paid online through the NIFT admissions portal. Please note that any bank or transaction fees incurred are the responsibility of the candidate. Ensure that the payment is successful and confirmation is received. NIFT is not liable for any issues that arise from payment failures or auto-reversals.

Documentation

• Candidates are advised to retain a printout or photocopy of their application form and payment proof for future reference.

Editing the Application Form

• Candidates may modify their application details online before making the payment. Once payment is completed, no changes can be made.
• A window to review and correct personal information will be provided at a later date, which will be announced on the NIFT website.
• If an applicant is later found ineligible, the application fee will not be refunded.

Responsibility and Accuracy of Information

• It is the applicant’s responsibility to provide accurate information during the application process. NIFT reserves the right to cancel the candidature if it is later found that any information provided was false.
• After the application editing window closes, changes to the category declared in the application will not be permitted. Candidates and guardians are therefore urged to fill out the application carefully and accurately.

NIFT Admit Card Download

Admission to the examination center will only be permitted to those who present a valid admit card. Admit cards for provisionally eligible candidates will be made available for download based on the information provided in the NIFT application forms. Please note that admit cards will not be mailed.

Candidates should frequently visit the NIFT website for updates on admit cards, exam results, and seat allocation details. It is important to remember that all pertinent information will be communicated through the NIFT website, and no separate correspondence will be sent by mail.

NIFT Entrance Examination Process for All Programs

All qualified candidates are required to participate in an entrance examination. The specifics of the admission process for each program are outlined below:

B.Des (Bachelor of Design)

• Candidates will undergo an entrance examination that includes a General Ability Test (GAT) and a Creative Ability Test (CAT). Those who are shortlisted based on these tests will participate in a Situation Test.

B.F.Tech (Bachelor of Fashion Technology)

• Applicants will complete an entrance examination consisting solely of the General Ability Test (GAT).

Dual Applications for B.F.Tech & B.Des

• Candidates applying to both programs will undertake both the General Ability Test (GAT) and the Creative Ability Test (CAT). Separate Candidate Merit Ranks (CMRs) will be generated for each program: one for B.Des and one for B.F.Tech. B.Des applicants who pass the entrance tests will proceed to a Situation Test, while B.F.Tech candidates will be evaluated based on the GAT results. Candidates for the B.F.Tech program who also meet the requirements for B.Des (Physics and Maths) can opt to take the CAT in addition to the GAT, except for those applying through the NIFT Lateral Entry Admission (NLEA).

M.Des (Master of Design)

• PG Design program candidates will take both the Creative Ability Test (CAT) and the General Ability Test (GAT). Those who are shortlisted will be invited to a Personal Interview (PI).

M.F.M. (Master of Fashion Management)

• Entrance for the M.F.M. program includes a General Ability Test (GAT). Shortlisted candidates will then proceed to a Personal Interview (PI).

M.F.Tech (Master of Fashion Technology)

• Applicants will take a General Ability Test (GAT) as part of their entrance examination. Successful candidates will move on to a Personal Interview (PI).

General Information

• The entrance exams are objective type and feature negative marking; incorrect answers will incur a penalty of 25% of the full marks allocated to that question.

NIFT General Ability Test (GAT)
