SSC CPO Eligibility Criteria: A Comprehensive Checklist for Aspirants

1. Nationality and Citizenship

To apply for the latest pattern of the SSC CPO exam, a candidate must be a citizen of India. However, the commission also allows candidates from other regions under specific conditions. You are eligible if you are:

• A citizen of India.
• A subject of Nepal.
• A subject of Bhutan.
• A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before January 1, 1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India.
• A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Candidates belonging to categories other than Indian citizens must possess a Certificate of Eligibility issued by the Government of India.

2. Age Limit and Relaxations

The standard age bracket for the SSC CPO exam is generally 20 to 25 years. This age is calculated based on a specific cut-off date mentioned in the official notification of the current recruitment cycle. If you fall outside this range, you may still be eligible if you belong to a reserved category.

3. Educational Qualifications

The academic requirement for SSC CPO is straightforward but rigid. As per the current syllabus and rules, candidates must hold a Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized university or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Central Government.

• Degree Completion: You must have completed your graduation before the crucial date specified in the advertisement. Candidates in their final year can apply only if their results are expected to be declared before the cut-off date.
• Distance Education: Degrees obtained through Open and Distance Learning (ODL) are valid, provided the university is recognized by the Distance Education Bureau (DEB) and UGC.

For those aiming for Sub-Inspector in Delhi Police, there is an additional requirement. Male candidates must possess a valid Driving License for LMV (Motorcycle and Car) at the time of Physical Endurance and Measurement Tests. 4. Physical Standard Test (PST)

5. Physical Endurance Test (PET)

• 100-meter race: Within 16 seconds.
• 1.6 km race: Within 6.5 minutes.

Female Candidates Checklist:

• 100-meter race: Within 18 seconds.
• 800-meter race: Within 4 minutes.

Note: There is no shot put event for female candidates. All events are mandatory, and failure in any one results in disqualification.

6. Medical Standards

The final hurdle in eligibility is the Medical Examination. Candidates must be in good mental and bodily health and free from any physical defect likely to interfere with the efficient performance of duties.

• Eyesight: Minimum distant vision should be 6/6 and 6/9 of both eyes without correction (i.e., without wearing glasses).
• Physical Conditions: Candidates must not have knock knees, flat feet, varicose veins, or squint in eyes.
• Tattoos: Tattoos are only allowed if they are small, on the inner aspect of the forearm (but only left forearm), or on the dorsum of the hands, and they must be of a religious symbol or name.
