What is Artisan Admission in NIFT?

Artisan Admission is a special quota in NIFT’s B.Des programs reserved for skilled artisans or their children (wards) who hold a valid Artisan Card (Pehchan Crad) issued by the Government of India (Development Commissioner of Handicrafts/Handlooms). This category aims to promote traditional craftsmanship by providing design education opportunities to artisans or their families.



Where to Apply for an Artisan Card for NIFT Admissions?
To apply for an Artisan Card, eligible candidates (or their parents) must submit an application through the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) or Development Commissioner (Handlooms), under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.

Visit the official portal: https://handicrafts.nic.in
Look for the “Artisan Card Registration” section.
Fill in personal, skill, and work-related details.

Offline Application
Visit the nearest Handicrafts/Handloom Development Office (state or district-level).

Who Can Apply?
Any candidate meeting the age and educational requirements for the B.Des program (Fashion Design, Leather Design, Textile Design, etc.) can apply.


1. Age Limit
General Category: Maximum age 24 years as of 1st August 2025.
SC/ST/PwD Candidates: Relaxation of 5 years (up to 29 years).


2. Educational Qualifications
You must have one of the following:
10+2 pass from a recognized board (CBSE/State Boards/ISC).
Senior Secondary pass from National Open School (minimum 5 subjects).
3/4-year diploma (AICTE or State Technical Board approved).
Equivalent foreign qualification recognized by the Association of Indian Universities.


Special Provision for Artisans
Artisans or their children can apply under this category by submitting:
A valid Artisan Card (issued by Development Commissioner of Handicrafts/Handlooms, Govt. of India).
OR Proof of application for the card.
